Years of weathering and an unstable foundation created the need to remove or rebuild a mudroom and storage room. The entire exterior and central systems of the house also needed to be replaced. Even with a limited budget for the number of repairs that needed to be made, a series of minor modifications to the house drastically improve the functionality. The enlarged kitchen allows for full-depth cabinets on each side of the room, larger workspace, and better circulation through the room . The re-built, enlarged mudroom includes a built-in bench and room to hang coats.
The owners wanted to maintain the coziness and character of the cottage and also requested fir woodwork and cabinetry throughout. Low-maintenance, durable materials were a must due to frequent renters.
