The Manzanita beach retreat is a compact modern loft-style vacation home in the northwest style. The sloped 2500 square foot site proved challenging, as the allowable footprint was only slightly larger than 600 sf. The material selection is minimal: glass, wood, steel, and concrete, with most materials left in their raw state. The open plan is broken only with the exposed wood post and beam structure, which delineates rooms within the larger space. The house opens to the southwest to the view of evergreen trees with the ocean beyond. Outdoor space is maximized with three decks and a patio.
